Flaky Deep
Dish Pie Crust
1
9 ½ inch deep dish pie pan
This
is a flaky pie crust that is easy to make and tastes great. This recipe only makes enough for one pie
crust. If you need a top crust for your
pie just double the recipe.
Ingredients:
1
½ cups flour
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ cup cold butter
¼ cup vegetable shortening
4 -5 tablespoons cold water
Directions:
Place
the flour, salt, butter and shortening in a food processor. Using the pulse setting, pulse the ingredients
until you see large crumbs forming. Add the
cold water and pulse until the mixture starts to form a ball. (Do not over mix).
Take
the dough out of the food processor and shape it into a round disc. Wrap it with plastic wrap and place in the
freezer for about 10 minutes to make it easy to handle.
Take
two sheets of wax paper and place the dough between them. (The dough won’t stick to the wax paper and
eliminates the need for adding more flour to the dough) Then, with a rolling pin, roll the dough into
a 12 inch circle so that it fits a 9 ½ inch deep dish pie plate. You might need to flip the paper and dough
over in case the bottom wax paper gets crinkled. You can smooth it out with the rolling
pin. Once the dough is rolled out
carefully remove one of the wax paper sheets and place the dough in the pie
plate. Then carefully remove the last
wax paper sheet. Turn the edge of the dough under and flute if you desire.
